Increasing Drug Assessment Capacity in Indonesia, BPOM and National Drug Assessment Commission Team Collaborate with 9 Leading Universities

The assessment of drug efficacy and safety in Indonesia has been ongoing since 1979. In order to improve the quality of drugs in Indonesia and strengthen the regulatory function of BPOM in the process of assessing drug efficacy and safety, the National Committee (Komnas) for Drug Assessment for the period 2025-2029 has been formed through the Decree of the Head of BPOM No. 86 of 2025 dated January 31, 2025.

The formation of this Komnas Team is the result of collaboration and cooperation between BPOM and experts in the fields of medicine, pharmacy, regulatory expertise and other related experts from 9 leading universities in Indonesia, namely the University of Indonesia, Bandung Institute of Technology, Gadjah Mada University, Hasanuddin University, Airlangga University, Padjadjaran University, Pelita Harapan University, Andalas University, Trisakti University. The Komnas Drug Assessment Team has gone through a series of stages of the process according to the procedures in the Reference Framework for the Establishment of the Komnas Drug Assessment which is led directly by the Head of BPOM.

Meeting between BPOM and the Core Team of the National Drug Evaluation Commission on March 12, 2024 was the first step in joint synergy in strengthening the position of BPOM as a regulator in being accountable for decisions to the public and a regulator that is recognized globally through achieving WHO Listed Authority (WLA) status.

Greatest appreciation and gratitude are also conveyed to the previous Core Team of the National Drug Evaluation Commission for their dedication, commitment, and extraordinary contribution in supporting the function of BPOM. Hopefully, the synergy that has been well established will always be maintained and provide broad benefits for the national health system in Indonesia.
